Hello and welcome to the first of our blogs focussing on biodiversity projects in the south of England, particularly the Isle of Wight. Our first project is The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. Their home page (https:\/\/www.hiwwt.org.uk\/about-us<\/a>) gives a brief overview of their work in the region:<\/p>

\u2018Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife\u00a0Trust is one of 46\u00a0<\/span>Wildlife Trusts<\/u><\/a>, all standing up for the natural world. Together we are the nation\u2019s most active and influential nature conservation partnership, protecting wildlife in every part of the British Isles. Each Trust works within its local community to inspire people and bring about change. With the invaluable support of volunteers and\u00a0members we manage\u00a0over 60\u00a0<\/span>nature reserves<\/u><\/a>. We also <\/span>work with other organisations and\u00a0landowners<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to protect and connect wildlife sites\u00a0across the county and inspire local communities and young people to care for wildlife where they live\u2019.<\/span><\/p>

We enjoyed reading about the trust working with volunteers on local wildlife projects. There seems to be lots of opportunities in Hampshire to get involved. More info on this can be found here: <\/span>https:\/\/www.hiwwt.org.uk\/volunteering-opportunities<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>

The Trust are also asking people to record their local wildlife using iRecord. We already use this, mostly to record the many species of moths in our area <\/span>https:\/\/www.hiwwt.org.uk\/species-records<\/span><\/a>. You might like downloading the app onto your phone and taking part in some citizen science!<\/span><\/p>
